What is Roundup™ and Glyphosate?

Monsanto's Roundup™ is currently the largest selling and most widely used herbicide in the world.  Glyphosate is the active chemical ingredient in Roundup™. Monsanto is the multi-national company that makes Roundup™.  Roundup™ is used by landscapers, farmers and other workers and individuals to kill weeds and other unwanted vegetation.  

Brief History of Roundup™ Litigation

In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) issued a final health assessment on glyphosate stating that it is probably carcinogenic to humans.  IARC specifically linked exposure to Roundup™ to Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and it other sub-types including large b-cell lymphoma, lymphocytic lymphoma, hairy cell leukemia and others. 

Many lawsuits were then filed against Monsanto for their failure to adequately warn people about the risks associated with using Roundup™ and other claims. In addition, the lawsuits claim that Monsanto knew or should have known that its products could be harmful to humans.

The first jury trial against Monsanto resulted in a $289 million verdict for Plaintiff Dwayne Johnson in 2018.  The second jury trial against Monsanto resulted in a $80 million verdict for Plaintiff Edward Hardeman. Currently, there are many other similar lawsuits pending against Monsanto.
