2013 - 2019 Ford Fusion Coolant Leak & Engine OverheatingNewsom Law PLC is investigating a potential lawsuit based on consumer complaints of engine overheating caused by an internal engine coolant leak in 2014 - 2019 Ford Fusion vehicles equipped with 1.5L or 2.0L Ecoboost engines.
Consumer complaints indicate that the engines in their vehicles overheat due to internal coolant / antifreeze loss that allows coolant to enter into the cylinders of the engine. In many cases, the defect causes total engine failure. Some consumers report that the check engine light comes on to alert them to the issue, but others state they had no warning. Likewise, some consumers have stated they saw blue or white smoke emitting from their vehicles to alert them to the issue. Several consumers experiencing the issue have said that the vehicle misfires when coolant leaked into the cylinders. The most common PCM codes reported as associated with misfire related to the internal coolant leak are P0316 and P0302. In addition, consumers are reporting that the parts to replace the engines in their vehicle are on backorder, causing significant wait times to have their vehicles repaired. Ford previously recalled certain 2013 and 2014 Ford vehicles equipped with the 1.6L engine for a very similar issues under recall campaigns 12V551 and 17V209. However, no such recall exists for the similar issues reported by consumers with the 1.5L and 2.0L Ford Ecoboost engines. If you own or lease a 2013-2019 Ford Fusion with a 1.5L or 2.0L Ecoboost engine and have experienced overheating with engine failure, please contact us at 615-251-9500 or fill out the form and we'll contact you at your convenience. There are no fees or expenses unless we win! Ford Fusion Internal Coolant Loss and Overheating Complaints:Below is a sample of publicly available consumer complaints about the Ford 1.5L and 2.0L Ecoboost engine overheating and failure:
"ON 8/9/2019 MY VEHICLE'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAVE A CODE READER AND I HOOKED IT UP TO SEE WHAT THE CODE WAS FOR AND IT WAS FOR A CYLINDER MISFIRE ON CYLINDER 1. SO I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO FORD ON 8/10/2019. I HAVE A 2017 FORD ESCAPE WITH 22811 MILES ON IT. IT HAS BEEN AT FORD EVER SINCE. I SPOKE TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I WOULD NEED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE ENGINE. THE DEALER SAID THEY HAVE A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THESE VEHICLES SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 2.0 ECOBOOST ENGINES IN THE FORD ESCAPE"
-9/4/19; NHTSA.GOV "TL THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE ENGINE WAS STARTED, THE CONTACT NOTICED BLUE SMOKE COMING FROM BOTH EXHAUST PIPES. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE TANK THAT HELD THE ANTIFREEZE WAS EMPTY, BUT THERE WAS NO EXTERNAL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,012."
-8/15/19; NHTSA.GOV "TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE AIR TEMPERATURE HIGH WARNING INDICATOR FLASHED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ALL AMERICAN FORD (375 NJ-17, PARAMUS, NJ 07652, 201-262-4900) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE COOLANT WAS LEAKING AND THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000."
-7/8/19; NHTSA.GOV "PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGH OCCASIONALLY. ESPECIALLY WHEN STARTING. ALMOST STALLED. THEN THE CAR STARTED OVER HEATING OCCASSIONALLY. FINALLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HAD THE CODE CHECKED. MISFIRE IN CYCLINDER 1. ALSO WHEN IT OVERHEATED WE CHECKED THE COOLANT, THE RESEVOR WAS EMPTY. WE ADDED THE PROPER AMOUNT OF COOLANT. 2 DAYS LATER IT WAS EMPTY. BUT NO SIGN OF LEAK. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE IS A MANUFACTUR DEFECT WHERE THERE IS A CRACK BY THE CYCLINDERS AND COOLANT IS LEAKING INTO THE OIL. NEEDED A NEW ENGINE.."
-8/15/19; NHTSA.GOV "WITH ONLY 18,000 MILES ON MY CAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT OVERHEATED. THE DEALERSHIP MISDIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR 2 WEEKS. WITHIN A DAY OF ME HAVING IT BACK, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 2 MONTHS BECAUSE PARTS TO REBUILD THE ENGINE WERE ON BACKORDER. ONCE I RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK, IT NEVER DROVE THE SAME BUT I LIVED WITH IT. HERE I AM 3 MONTHS LATER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN! FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD AGAIN IN MY LIFE."
